A New Mohawk for a New Decade

Renovations Update

Since classes ended in April, we’ve been working hard to bring about the kind of transformation that students and staff told us they want to see at Fennell Campus.   We’ve made tremendous progress towards creating a great learning environment for students.

One of the most dramatic changes will be found in the C-Wing between E and I-Wings.

Through the expansion of this space we were able to create a significant “Learning Hub.”

The area will be wireless and provide students with places to gather, work or collaborate on projects with faculty or classmates. In this area, students and staff will also find Learning Hubs and peer tutoring services.  The new Learning Hubs will offer more computers and will aim to support information, technology and media literacy for Mohawk students.

Academic Districts

One of the objectives of the Fennell Campus Renewal is to create “academic districts” or schools. The first wing to undergo consolidation is the A-Wing, which has become the School of Human Services.  This summer, we enhanced the A-Wing’s main level corridor and classrooms to accommodate the schools requirements.

Preparations are also under way to accommodate a consolidated testing centre in A-Wing.

Cafeteria

Renovations to an expanded cafeteria are progressing rapidly and are expected to continue throughout September.  The new cafeteria will feature new food concepts, a variety of seating areas and a more efficient system of payment.

Behind the scenes tour of Mohawk College’s Fennell Renewal Project

On time, on budget, and most importantly accident free.

Mohawk Students’ Association President Kat Cullen offers this behind the scenes tour of the new Centre for Entrepreneurship, Learning and Innovation.

The Centre will house the new, state-of-the art Harold Cummings Library, 7 classrooms, all with the latest in wireless, multi-media technology, video conferencing and Media Productions Studios, and will feature a Learning Hub on the upper level.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship, Learning and Innovation will be LEED Gold Certified — one of the greenest education buildings in the region.

Please view the video for more about the new Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The video, shot and edited by Mohawk students Zachary Cowley and Carrie-Anne Shearer, debuted at the 2010 Mohawk President’s Breakfast.

On time. On budget. And accident free. The new front door and public face for Mohawk College is scheduled to open this Fall. The Mohawk Centre for Entrepreneurship, Learning and Innovation at the Fennell Campus will be home to a new library and learning commons and multi-media classrooms. The current library at the Fennell Campus will be converted into a new one-stop centre for student services. Mohawk President Rob MacIsaac recently led community leaders on a behind-the-scenes tour of the centre.  Pictured above is a second story view of the Centre. (Photo by Simon Wilson)

Renewal Update: #6

Facilities Management are about to start one of the final phases of a 3 year Energy Efficiency Upgrade at the Fennell Campus. This phase will benefit those using “C” wing classrooms and staff with offices in “C” wing. We hope to enhance heating and cooling control with new VAV boxes which currently reside in the ceiling space above your office or classroom and add Direct Digital Control of these pieces of equipment to the Building Automation System which is centrally controlled from a computer in the Boiler Room. As the equipment we need to access and renew is in your work space, contractors will be entering your office after 6:00 p.m. to perform work.

This work will occur in two phases:

1. Preparation of existing HVAC components (May-June)

2. Installation of new VAV Terminals and Controls (June-July)
